Crypto tickers for Mac: Ticker, Coin Tick and Crypto Pro
Compare a simple USD watchlist with multi-coin menu bar displays and portfolio tools. A practical guide to three Mac crypto ticker options.
A Mac crypto ticker should fit the job you want it to do. Ticker puts one selected token’s USD price in the menu bar and keeps a watchlist behind it. Coin Tick focuses on showing selected coins in the menu bar. Crypto Pro combines a menu bar widget with a broader tracking app. That difference matters more than a long feature checklist.
This comparison comes from Ticker’s implementation and the alternatives’ published product descriptions. We have not benchmarked the three apps side by side. Check the linked listings for current compatibility, features and purchase terms.
When Ticker is a useful alternative
Choose Ticker if you want to glance at one price while working, then click for the rest of your watchlist. Star Bitcoin, Ethereum or another token to choose the menu bar price. Switch between 1-hour, 24-hour and 1-week changes in the popup. Search uses CoinGecko’s token directory, and the watchlist is saved on your Mac.
The scope is deliberately small: USD prices, one-minute refresh attempts and a native SwiftUI interface. No account or API key is required. It does not track holdings, calculate portfolio gains, connect to exchanges or send price alerts.
The current download requires macOS 26 or newer on Apple Silicon. It is ad-hoc signed and not notarized. If you want App Store installation or use an older Mac, those constraints may rule it out before features do. Read the download page before choosing it.
Coin Tick: selected prices in the menu bar
Coin Tick’s App Store listing describes displaying selected cryptocurrency prices directly in the Mac menu bar. It is worth considering when the visible menu bar display is your main requirement.
Before installing, check how much menu bar space your chosen coins need and whether the app’s currency and display options match your workflow. A Mac with a crowded menu bar has a different constraint from a large external display. Compare the listing’s system requirements with your own macOS version rather than assuming that every ticker supports the same machines.
Crypto Pro: a broader tracking workflow
Crypto Pro’s macOS page presents its Mac app alongside a menu bar widget and a wider tracking workflow. Its published feature set includes portfolio tracking and alerts, which Ticker does not provide.
Crypto Pro is the more relevant option to investigate if a menu bar price is only one part of the job. Open its product and help pages to verify the specific alerts, imports, syncing and purchase options you need. These features can change, so this guide does not reproduce a pricing table or promise that every feature is available in every plan.
Compare these five things first
- Visible prices. Do you want one selected price or several coins visible at once?
- Mac compatibility. Confirm both the operating system and processor requirements.
- Data source and refresh behavior. Find out what happens when a request fails. A visible price may be an old price.
- Tracking scope. A watchlist is a list of coins. A portfolio records quantities and may calculate gains. They solve different problems.
- Installation route. Decide whether direct downloads and their signing status fit your requirements.
For a price-only workflow on a supported Mac, Ticker’s setup guide shows exactly what installation gives you. For alerts or portfolio totals, investigate those capabilities in an alternative before committing to an app. For any ticker, understanding stale data helps you read the displayed numbers correctly.
